SSASIM input table WWBEN

Contains specification of dynamic policy parameters used in calculation of age widow(er) SI benefits.

Parent table is: SIBEN

There are no child tables.

Go to SSASIM input parameters overview

SSASIM:   WWBEN . id
Identifies set of aged widow(er) benefit policy parameters specified on this row of table, so id value should be unique for each group of rows that has a collection of birth_year values (see below).

Valid values: 1 to 999999999 (nine digits), Integer

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp

SSASIM:   WWBEN . notes
Describes specification of table row in free-form note.

Valid values: any ASCII text (Note: do not copy and paste from a word processor because of the possibility of embedded non-ASCII characters.)

Source code: notes are not read by the model

SSASIM:   WWBEN . birth_year
Identifies birth year of individuals for whom the aged widow(er) benefit policy parameters specified on this table row are in effect. Birth years for which no row exists have their parameter values calculated by linear interpolation between the closest prior year and closest subsequent year for which table rows have been specified for this id. Values for years following the last specified year are taken to be equal to values in the last specified birth_year.

Valid values: 1930 to (1930+RUN.num_years), Integer

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_era
Specifies earliest retirement age (or retirement eligibility age) at which age widow(er) beneficiaries can first receive reduced benefits. This value must not be less than 60 and must not be greater than retired-worker early retirement age for individuals with the same birth_year (see OAIBEN.era above).

Valid values: 60 to oaiben.era, Real

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_nra
Specifies normal retirement age at which age widow(er) beneficiaries can receive unreduced benefits. This value must not be less than ww_era (see above) and must not be greater than retired-worker normal retirement age for individuals with the same birth_year (see OAIBEN.nra above). The value of ww_nra can be different from OASI.nra if ww_era is less than OASI.era and the NRA is rising over time (as is the case in current-law policy).

Valid values: 60 to oaiben.era, Real

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_alt_pia
Specifies whether or not the alternative PIA calculation method for deceased spouse's earnings record is used as option when calculating surviving spouse's widow(er) benefits at age equal to ww_era (see above). Alternative PIA is calculated using re-indexed AIME and re-indexed PIA-formula bendpoints. If alternative PIA is larger than deceased spouse's price-indexed PIA (calculated at death), then surviving spouse can use that higher PIA in calculating his/her widow(er) benefit.

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and ind.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_nrapiaf
Specifies percentage fraction of deceased spouse's PIA that is paid to widow(er) as a benefit at widow(er)'s normal retirement age (see ww_nra above). Getting widow(er) benefits earlier than NRA causes an actuarial reduction in benefits (see ww_era above and ww_era_arf below). This parameter is expressed in percentage terms, not as a decimal fraction.

Valid values: 0.0 to 200.0, Real

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_era_arf
Specifies percentage actuarial reduction factor applied when widow(er) benefits first received at ww_era (see above) age. This parameter is expressed in percentage terms, not as a decimal fraction.

Valid values: 0.0 to 100.0, Real

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_cap_std
Specifies whether or not the standard widow(er) benefit is capped by deceased spouse's benefit, which itself is subject to a floor (see ww_min_s_f below).

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_min_s_f
Specifies percentage fraction of deceased spouse's PIA that serves as a floor to deceased spouse's benefit cap to the standard widow(er) benefit (see ww_cap_std above). This parameter is expressed in percentage terms, not as a decimal fraction.

Valid values: 0.0 to 100.0, Real

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_comben
Specifies whether or not standard widow(er) benefit, which may be capped (see ww_cap_std and ww_min_s_f above), is optionally augmented by a combined benefit. This combined benefit is simply a fraction (see ww_combenf below) of the sum of the deceased spouse's and surviving spouse's indexed benefits. The nature of the augmentation is that the widow(er) benefit is the larger of this combined benefit and the standard benefit.

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_combenf
Specifies percentage fraction of sum of deceased spouse's and surviving spouse's indexed benefits that is the combined benefit amount. Used only if ww_comben (see above) is true. This parameter is expressed in percentage terms, not as a decimal fraction.

Valid values: 0.0 to 100.0, Real

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.

SSASIM:   WWBEN . ww_combenm
Specifies percentage fraction of average OASI benefits that defines the ceiling for the combined benefit amount calculated when ww_comben (see above) is true. A very large value implies no effective ceiling. This parameter is expressed in percentage terms, not as a decimal fraction.

Valid values: 0.0 to 100000000.0, Real

Source code: policy.h and policy.cpp for reading the parameter from the input database and oasdiben.cpp for using the parameter in SI benefit computations.
