PENSIM Output Statistics Overview (2/17/16)

The benchmark run in ESP mode automatically produces .arc, .cov, .pro, and .xsa PENSIM output files. All other PENSIM output files must be explicitly requested in a run specification file using PENSIM input parameters located in the OUTPUT table. And all of the four listed above (except for the .arc output file) can be turned off in a run specification file.

There are five cross-section sample (.xs?) output files so that surveys of simulated individuals can be conducted at different times and with different supplementary questions, as specified using input parameters OUTPUT.xs? and those located in the five XS? tables.

All PENSIM output files are listed below:


.AGE file contains personal information by age for each cohort sample individual.

.ARC file contains revenue and cost (that is, solvency) statistics for the employer-sponsored-pension immediate annuity provider and for the employer-sponsored-pension deferred annuity provider.

.COV file contains lifetime pension coverage statistics for each cohort sample individual.

.CST file contains aggregate employer cost of plan sponsorship.

.ECI file contains lifetime saving statistics for an exemplary cohort individual.

.JEB file contains pension balance statistics for each job-ending for each cohort sample individual.

.LAW file contains scenario- and year-specific values of various pension-law maximums.

.LEH BINARY file contains lifetime earnings history for each individual.

.MIG file contains aggregate migration/population counts for birth cohort.

.PEN file contains nominal pension benefits by age for each cohort sample individual.

.PRO file contains pension rollover statistics for each cohort sample individual.

.XSA file contains cross-sectional survey statistics for each living resident cohort sample member, where the survey statistics are gathered at age XSA.xs_age if XSA.olc_mode is false, or at the age determined by XSA.olc_year and XSA.olc_moment if XSA.olc_mode is true. The surveys that have a retrospective (i.e., prior year) supplement are conducted if the individual is a living resident during the prior year, while other surveys are conducted if the individual is a living resident at the time of the survey.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If XSA.olc_mode is true, be sure to combine the many xsaNNNNN.YYY files into a single xsaNNNNN.all file using the xsall utility from the Windows command-line prompt in the PENSIM database directory or by calling the xsall utility from a post-simulation tabulation script specified by the SSASIM RUN.tab_script input parameter.

.XSB file contains cross-sectional survey statistics for each living resident cohort sample member, where the survey statistics are gathered at age XSB.xs_age if XSB.olc_mode is false, or at the age determined by XSB.olc_year and XSB.olc_moment if XSB.olc_mode is true. The surveys that have a retrospective (i.e., prior year) supplement are conducted if the individual is a living resident during the prior year, while other surveys are conducted if the individual is a living resident at the time of the survey.
