GEMINI input table RUN

Contains highest level description of model runs, consisting mostly of foreign keys pointing to rows in child tables. Each row specifies a different run.

Parent table is: QUEUE

Child table is: SAMPLE

Go to GEMINI input parameters overview

GEMINI:   RUN . id
Identifies run specified on this row of table, so id value should be unique.

Valid values: 1 to 99999 (five digits), Integer

GEMINI:   RUN . notes
Describes specification of table row in free-form note.

Valid values: any ASCII text, Memo (Note: do not copy and paste from a word processor because of the possibility of embedded non-ASCII characters.)

GEMINI:   RUN . ssasim_dir
Specifies database subdirectory/subfolder in which the SSASIM run used by this GEMINI run is located.

Valid values: enter any valid subdirectory/subfolder of the SSASIM executables directory/folder (specified in the %ssasim% environment variable) without the trailing backslash; embedded spaces in subdirectory/subfolder name not allowed.

GEMINI:   RUN . ssasim_rid
Specifies RUN.id value of SSASIM run used by this GEMINI run.

Valid values: 1 to 99999 (five digits), Integer

GEMINI:   RUN . sample_id
Points to row in child SAMPLE table.

Valid values: 1 to 999999999 (nine digits), Integer

GEMINI:   RUN . only_esp
Specifies whether or not only employer-sponsored pensions statistics are included in GEMINI output files. When true, as usually required by the educational version of GEMINI, OASDI taxes and benefits are set to zero in GEMINI output files. When false, OASDI taxes and benefits are simulated by GEMINI and the results appear in the GEMINI output files. IMPORTANT NOTE: there is one exception to the above rule: the educational version of GEMINI can be used to estimate federal income tax statistics that require estimates of OASDI benefits for the income tax calculations. In this special case, statistics in the GEMINI .atx output results file will be computed using valid OASDI information, but all other GEMINI output files will have OASDI benefit and payroll tax statistics suppressed (that is, shown with a value of zero even though a nonzero value was used in the federal income tax calculations).

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical

GEMINI:   RUN . use_inctax
Specifies whether or not federal income taxes are simulated in this run. IMPORTANT NOTE: when setting this parameter to true, be sure to set use_inctax to true in the PENSIM RUN table.

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical

GEMINI:   RUN . olc_inctax
Specifies whether or not the federal income module is used to simulate several federal income tax statistics during an OLC-mode run. If so, the results are passed to SSASIM for processing in an OLC-mode run with results in the SSASIM .olc output file. IMPORTANT NOTE: the value of the RUN.olc_inctax parameter can be true only when RUN.only_esp=F and RUN.use_inctax=T.

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical

GEMINI:   RUN . olc_it_ssb
Specifies whether or not the federal income module is used to simulate the taxation of OASI and DI benefits during an OLC-mode run. If so, the results are passed to SSASIM for processing in an OLC-mode run with results in the SSASIM .olc output file. IMPORTANT NOTE: the value of the RUN.olc_it_ssb parameter can be true only when RUN.olc_inctax=T.

WARNING: use this option only for testing DI trust-fund revenue from the income taxation of DI benefits because before 2060 some elderly (born before 1935) taxpayers who receive OASI benefits are missing from the OLC-mode sample.

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical

GEMINI:   RUN . iti_write
Specifies whether or not a federal income tax imputation (.iti) file is written for this run. The binary .iti file is used to ensure that imputed amounts are the same for individuals in two (or more) simulation runs. Imputed amounts include types of income not simulated by the PSG models and expenses that can be used as itemized deductions. Write the .iti file in one run (by setting iti_write to true), then read it in another run (by setting iti_read to true and setting iti_run_id equal to the RUN.id of the first run that wrote the .iti file). IMPORTANT NOTE: when setting this parameter to true, be sure to set use_inctax to true in this table.

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical [but iti_write and iti_read cannot both be true]

GEMINI:   RUN . iti_read
Specifies whether or not a federal income tax imputation (.iti) file is read for this run.

GEMINI:   RUN . iti_run_id
Specifies RUN.id of the run that wrote the income tax imputation (.iti) file that is read for this run. IMPORTANT NOTE: this parameter is not read from the table unless iti_read is true.

Valid values: 1 to 99999 (five digits), Integer

GEMINI:   RUN . iti_penben
Specifies whether or not couple pension benefits from the federal income tax imputation (.iti) file read for this run is used in place of the pension benefits read from the binary cohort file produced by PENSIM. A true value for this parameter is almost never a sensible setting; do not set this parameter to true unless you are sure about what you are doing. IMPORTANT NOTE: this parameter can be set to true, only when iti_read is true.

Valid values: T (=1) or F (=0) (for true or false), Logical
